Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
Beloved brothers and sisters, let us direct our hearts, minds and souls to a fundamental understanding in our walk with Christ - seeking the joy of the Lord. In the book of Nehemiah, Chapter 8, Verse 10, it is beautifully written, "The joy of the Lord is your strength." This simple yet powerful statement holds a deep ocean of wisdom.
What is this joy of the Lord, and how do we seek it? My dear brethren, let us explore and embrace the joy that is ours in Christ. The joy of the Lord is not merely an emotion; it is a deep-seated conviction that God is in control, regardless of our circumstances. It is a spiritual thermostat that transcends the highs and lows of life, that remains steady, even when the storms of life try to shake our world.
There are countless ways to seek the joy of the Lord, but
today, let us focus on three essential paths: Through Prayer, through God's
Word, and through Service.
First, constant communication with God through prayer is a
sure path to find His joy. Just as we share our joys and sorrows with our loved
ones, our Heavenly Father wants us to share our burdens and blessings with Him.
As Paul writes in Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God.”
Second, meditating on God's Word is another powerful path to
seek His joy. Just as food nourishes our body, the Word of God nourishes our
souls, enlightens our minds, and fills our hearts with heavenly joy. The
psalmist confesses in Psalm 19:8, "The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart..."
Last, service is an avenue that leads to the joy of the
Lord. When we serve others out of love for God and people, we experience the
joy that comes from being God's instrument. In the words of Jesus Himself, as
recorded in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
So, my beloved brethren, let us continuously seek the joy of
the Lord. Let us earnestly pray, diligently study His Word, and passionately
serve His people. In doing so, we will not only find the joy of the Lord, but
we also will become a source of His joy to those around us.
Let us remember that the joy we seek is not fleeting or temporary,
like the joy of the world. This joy we seek is eternal, invincible, and
abundant. It is a joy that strengthens our faith, sustains our hope, and
empowers us to love.
May the joy of the Lord be your strength, today and always.
And remember, when you seek the joy of the Lord, you are seeking the very heart
of God. I pray that as we journey together in this life, we may continually
experience, share, and celebrate the joy that is found in our Lord Jesus
Christ. Blessings upon you all, today and every day! Amen.
